Here it is now just past the summer solstice and the project to build me a studio overlooking our beach at home has only progressed as far as clearing the site, bringing up rocks from the beach for pier footings and felling timbers for the bones of the structure.  Such is the reality when just you and your husband are doing the project in between all the other usual seasonal projects that must be completed before winter.  Clearly there will not be a studio building for me to move into before winter comes this year.  But I was determined to have an atelier sooner than later so Kevin and I decided to put up a 4m four season bell tent for me to work from.  Even this took a bit more time than expected because we decided it would be wise to build a platform for the tent and the spring was so wonderfully wet that the wilderness road leading to the build site quickly turned to muck.  Our ATV can access it, as can the tractor - but the utility wagon could not handle the...

 It was a fabulous summer with great support for my works from both tourists and locals.   As always, the “bread and butter” of my business are my art cards and this year I found it quite a struggle to keep my inventory up.  Every day I had both printers humming and was at my work station engaged in the myriad of steps that it takes to put a finished card in the gallery.   I love making cards, but did find myself dreaming of the day when I would not have to do it every day and could do some rock painting again.  For the past two weeks, that is what I have been doing and having a super time!

 It is now January 14, 2022 - how very sci-fi that date looks! These be modern times, yet this gal is doing what she can to once again channel her “inner-cave-woman” .   I am in my studio on the bay in the fabulous cultural hub known as the Gore Bay Harbour Centre .  It is a deep chill kind of day (-24ºC ) with a stiff northeast wind that bites at exposed flesh.  So one bulks up with insulative clothing when out and about and since we have full sun today there is reason to whistle a happy tune as well.  Today's view outside the Ravenseyrie Studio & Art Gallery Gore Bay, Ontario / Manitoulin Island Inside, things are not exactly toasty warm with that persistent wind buffeting this old ship of a building, but with a shawl over my shoulders and some hot tea in my belly, the studio is pleasant and inviting enough, methinks for the muse to perhaps come and grant me some creative energy. Strange Times / The Newscaster Paleolithic-style Rock Painting by Lynne Gerard “Let me make some greeting cards using images from my Paleolithic-style rock paintings!” , methought one day.  As you cannot scan a rock painting into the computer (at least not that I am aware is possible), I took photos of some of those I made earlier this year and uploaded the photos to my computer.  I composed new verses, did the calligraphy and made my templates then printed out the base card, hand-painted each one, glued on the art prints, scored and folded them and soon was able to add four new greeting cards to my product list.  They are on sale in the gallery or available online, priced at $7 each.
