Original Mixed Media Painting by Lynne Gerard unsigned, awaiting proper presentation As mentioned in my previous blog entry, in the spring of this year I put a bit of time into a variety of ink wash paintings of the Sandhill Cranes that spend a good share of the year with us at our Ravenseyrie Sorraia Mustang Preserve.   The majority of those works have remained stacked in a pile waiting for me to decide in what ways I would present them in the gallery.  Again and again I had to set them aside as my energies were needed to produce the large volume of greeting cards, notecards, oracles and small fine art prints that are the mainstay of my business during tourist season here on Manitoulin Island. Now that foot traffic in the gallery has slowed down considerably, I am able to devote the meditative attention necessary to putting the finishing touches on those many artworks.   By email this morning I received word from the Tolman Collection gallery in Tokyo that the Abstract Expressionist, Toko Shinoda, (an amazing sorceress with sumi-e and huge influence on me) has departed the earthly realm.   Joy 1991 One would be expecting news such as this at some time, given that Toko Shinoda was 107 years old (she would have turned 108 on March 28th) --but still there is a certain sadness for, like Norman Tolman wrote, "I almost thought that she would always be with us" . Strange Times / The Newscaster Paleolithic-style Rock Painting by Lynne Gerard “Let me make some greeting cards using images from my Paleolithic-style rock paintings!” , methought one day.  As you cannot scan a rock painting into the computer (at least not that I am aware is possible), I took photos of some of those I made earlier this year and uploaded the photos to my computer.  I composed new verses, did the calligraphy and made my templates then printed out the base card, hand-painted each one, glued on the art prints, scored and folded them and soon was able to add four new greeting cards to my product list.  They are on sale in the gallery or available online, priced at $7 each. The Ravenseyrie Art Gallery has been open for sometime now, albeit on truncated hours as the Gore Bay Harbour Centre is following a cautious reopening due to the Covid-19 pandemic.  Several of the shops/studios are closed completely until the virus is no longer a threat.  The marine museum is closed as is the lower level. Four of our tenants have been willing to be open to the public on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from noon to 4pm. For myself, I have been keeping my usual hours (Tuesdays thru Saturdays, 10am to 4pm) all through the pandemic lockdown and am continuing in that manner even now, though the rest of the building may be a darkened cavern at times.  Should visitors come on one of the days when the Harbour Centre is closed, they may come around to my studio door on the 2nd floor lakeside of the building and ask for permission to view my gallery.  Facemasks and sanitized hands are part of our protocol.  I provide wipes I make using alcohol and tea tr...

New from Ravenseyrie Studio & Art Gallery My sincere apologies for so little updating of this art blog.  I am much better at creating art and poetry for my physical gallery than I am for sitting in front of my computer and doing right by the virtual gallery.  There is room for improvement and I will try...
